Samsung Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34, follower favorites or a missed opportunity?

Samsung's Galaxy A collection is a crowd-pleaser; it feels and looks great, much like the more expensive Galaxy S models, without setting you back nearly as much. Certain, the video cameras aren't as nice, the efficiency is lower, and so forth, but the A collection flourishes on being "great enough."

That's why the arrival of the Galaxy A54 and A34 is such a big deal. Some of the previous entries managed to become follower favorites and are often raised as recommendations in the comment areas. Can the 2023 generation measure up to these assumptions? We will let you be the judge, but first we need to address what has changed and what has not.

The Samsung Galaxy A34 is no longer simply a less expensive variation of the A5x model. This year it's bigger with a 6.6" display (vs. 6.4"), and it suits it with a 120Hz refresh rate (the A33 just did 90Hz). Furthermore, it has a totally diverse chipset, a Dimensity 1080

The Samsung Galaxy A54 takes the display down a notch, to 6.4" (the A53 had a 6.5" display). However, the new model isn't smaller in size compared to its 2022 precursor; it is a millimeter shorter, certain, but it is 2 mm wider and 13 g heavier. Both the A54 and A34 have 5,000 mAh batteries with 25 W wired just for power (like their predecessors), and both are ranked IP67. The A54 uses a Samsung-designed Exynos 1380 chipset.

Compared with the Dimensity, it uses a different node (5nm Samsung vs. 6nm TSMC) and has double the variety of Cortex-A78 cores (four); however, the maximum clock speed is lower (2.4GHz vs. 2.6GHz). The GPUs are comparable enough to make this a fascinating fight: Mali-G68 MP5 for the Exynos and G68 MC4 for the Dimensity. These are simply the raw varieties, of course; more information on the efficiency will need to wait on the review.

Perhaps a more appropriate comparison is to the Galaxy A52s and its Snapdragon 778G, among the fan favorites we mentioned earlier. The 778G is old but still gives the Dimensity 1080 a run for its money; it remains to be seen how it contrasts versus the Exynos 1380. The A52s had a big defect: limited accessibility (it simply didn't introduce it in some areas).

The Microsoft and Yahoo Pixel 7 are available in Europe, at the very least in some nations. And it's smaller by a couple of millimeters compared to the Galaxy A54 while offering a 6.3" FHD+ 90Hz AMOLED display. The Tensor G2 isn't one of the most efficient chips; however, it does feature an X1 Prime core. And the main 50-megapixel video camera has a large 1.31-inch sensing unit. The battery is small (4,355 mAh) and slow to charge at 20 W over a cable, but it also does 20 W wirelessly. It is not as if the A54 is a rate devil when it comes to billing.

The 4,500 mAh battery is rated at 33 W. You might need to wait for the right discount to obtain the Telephone (1) at €400, however (but we've seen that price a couple of times).

The vivo V27 goes also larger with a 6.78" display (FHD+ 120Hz), and it uses MediaTek's new mid-range chip, the Dimensity 7200. This phone is consumed with selfies and has a 50MP 4K/60fps qualified video camera on the front, plus a 50+8+2MP triad on the back. The 4,600 mAh battery charges at 66 W.

If you want something smaller, the Microsoft and Yahoo Pixel 6a is fairly small and offers a decently luxurious experience if you can overcome the 60Hz display (6.1" FHD+ AMOLED). Which Android skin is your favorite - the Pixel Experience or One UI?  MIUI, FuntouchOS, or NothingOS? This may be a deciding factor, perhaps compared to the equipment specifics.
