Sharp and E Ink announce 42-inch "ePoster" zero-power electronic poster display

Sharp and E Ink Holdings have announced the introduce of a 42-inch Black and White Digital Paper Electronic Poster Display (ePoster) that requires no power consumption throughout display. 


The item uses reflective display technology to reflect ambient light to display pictures. The more vibrant the environment, the better the display effect.


The ePaper poster display is simply 3 centimeters thick and evaluates about 8 kg, with a light design and slim. The black and white screen requires maximum power consumption of about 40W to own the ink bits when refreshing. As a contrast, Sharp's same-sized LCD screen has a power consumption of 115W.

Unlike traditional electronic displays, this ePaper poster display can proceed to display also if the power is shut off, production it an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional electronic signboards.


The approximated market price of the Sharp 42-inch ePaper poster display is about 550,000 yen (approximately $4,163 USD). The item can be used for in-store indications in retailers such as clothes stores and can also be used for evacuation assistance at catastrophe websites.


Sharp plans to use its expertise in the installation and procedure of electronic signboards, as well as its solution network throughout Japan, to change paper posters in locations where it was challenging to install electronic signboards with digital paper electronic posters.


The ePaper poster display is the outcome of a three-year collaboration in between E Ink and Sharp, with the objective of adding to the era of carbon neutrality through the popularization of digital paper electronic posters. In the future, both companies plan to not just concentrate on the development of large-size or color e-paper displays but also expand the global e-paper billboard business. Sharp will introduce this 42-inch Black and White Digital Paper Electronic Poster Display (ePoster) in the Japanese market in very early April 2023.
